WE WERE 25
Joel and Siebe, two brothers in their twenties, go on holiday together to the family home in the Belgian Ardennes after Siebe survives a suicide attempt a few months earlier. Both brothers have never talked to each other about this. In contrast, Joel takes his younger brother in tow, hoping to make him realise how beautiful life is. However, Siebe silently still struggles with his depressive feelings and is ashamed of what happened. During their holiday, Siebe is once again confronted with the past while Joel tries with bravado to pull him out of his rut. Despite Joel's well-intentioned attempt, he is faced with the fear of losing his younger brother again. Joel decides to change tack and confront his little brother with his own fears. As a result, it becomes an intimate and vulnerable story about two brothers who both view death differently in their young lives. Despite their different personalities, they learn what it means to be open to each other.
