Biography

Mateusz Konrad Sluijs (1999), known in the Netherlands as Matthijs, was born in Łódź, Poland. As a writer and director, he focuses on cinema with a personal, tender, and intimate style. His graduation film Merhamet from the Netherlands Film Academy was selected for the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) in 2023, where it was nominated for the NPO Talent Fiction Award (Best Graduation Film). The film was also selected as the Dutch entry for the CILECT Prize 2024.

His short fiction film We Were 23 was selected for Shortcutz Amsterdam in April 2024. His latest film, Tell Me Before You Go, premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) in September 2025.

He is currently working on the documentary Mijn Moeders – Moje Matki about his own adoption background, which is in post-production.
