Biography

Matthijs, 1999, was born in Łódź, Poland. As a writer and director, Matthijs focuses mainly on cinema with a personal, tender, and intimate style. His graduation film Merhamet from the Netherlands Film Academy was selected for the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) in 2023. The film got nominated for the NPO Talent Fiction Award (Best Graduation Film) at the NFF and is the Dutch entry for the CILECT Prize 2024. His short fiction film We Were 23 was selected for Shortcutz Amsterdam in April 2024. His latest film, Tell Me Before You Go, will premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) in September 2025. Matthijs is also working on a documentary about his adoption background.
